Today, Congress leader P Chidambaram condemned the latest bullet train scheme through Twitter, declaring that the move will be as similar to the disastrous move of demonetization "which will kill everything else". Apart from this, he recommended spending money on perking up railway safety and other facilities, instead of in the bullet train project.

 The statement from the ex-finance minister comes after a sad incident took place yesterday, when in a stampede at Elphinstone railway station’s foot-over bridge claimed 22 lives.

Chidambaram claimed that upcoming bullet train project which will connect Mumbai and Ahmedabad, is not for common populace but it is an "ego trip for the high and mighty”.

Chidambaram as well proposed that Piyush Goyal, Railway Minister must instead use the INR 1 lakh crore destined for the scheme,  for making sure railway wellbeing and safety in the nation.

He stated via twitter that "Bullet train will be like demonetisation. It will kill everything else including safety. Railway Minister may take pledge on day after. Rs 1 lakh crore for rail safety, track upgrading, signaling & not for bullet train.”

Furthermore, MNS leader Raj Thackeray also cautioned that he would not let a single block to be positioned for bullet trains till the current railway infrastructure develops and get better. Thackeray blamed Indian Railways authorities for yesterday’s unpleasant incident.

He stated in a press conference that, "It is not the first time that it rained in Mumbai. They (Railways) say it happened due to rains. Until present infrastructure of local railways is made better, not a single brick will be allowed to be placed for bullet train in Mumbai.”

On 14 September, PM Narendra Modi, as well as Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, laid the establishment stone for the first bullet train in India amid the two cities. The heftiest project of INR 1.10 lakh-crore is anticipated to be accomplished by the year 2022. The latest bullet train might cover a space of above 500 kilometres in approximately two hours.
