On Aug. 21st, 2017 skies over the South Carolina has shadowed in over almost in a century. Yesterday’s solar eclipse was one of the rarest spectacle seen by this generation. It followed a direct path through coast to coast over the United States after 99 years.

The total solar eclipse occurs only when our moon tries to completely overlap the sun’s perimeter in the sky. Heavenly bodies like sun, moon and planets align once every 18 months. So, a solar eclipse happens after each one and half years.
If you carefully notice during any solar eclipse that, the moon slowly comes between the earth and the sun, which blocks out a major portion of the sun and only the last sliver of light from the sun is visible from the earth. During this time, the area inside the moon’s shadow looks like a murkier state of night.
What makes this total solar eclipse special is that during a partial solar eclipse these twilight like phenomenon doesn’t exist.
The chart below lists the moment of mid-totality and the duration of totality for a handful of cities that lie close to the center of the path.
